Care of silk bedding
All our silk bedding is machine washable at 30° C on a silk or wool cycle wash, and will not suffer any shrinkage if washed in this way. Only specialist silk washing agents (i.e. those that specifically indicate that it is suitable for washing silk) should be used. We recommend Tenestar ( for further information click here, but other suitable washing agents are also available.
Silk should not be dry cleaned or washed using regular detergents as these will damage the silk fibres and result in a harder feel afterwards. Use of inappropriate washing agents could reduce the useful life of your silk bedding by up to 75%
Although our care instructions advise that silk bedding should not be tumble dried, it can be partly dried in a tumble drier on a low setting and specifically providing that it is taken out while still slightly damp. If it is allowed to completely dry in a tumble drier there is a risk that permanent creases could be heat set into the fabric and even that the silk could be damaged because of overheating.
The most important thing about looking after silk after it has been washed is not to let it dry completely until you have decided how you want to finish it. Because silk dries quickly it is relatively easy to iron. When the silk is ironing dry, i.e. just retaining a slight amount of dampness, you can iron it on a low temperature setting. While this is probably recommended for pillow cases you may find that sheets, and possibly even duvet covers, will give a satisfactory appearance if they are folded neatly and put in an airing cupboard under a couple of towels (for weight). This is obviously, though, a matter of personal choice.
