9.0 tog and 13.5 tog Silk Filled Duvets

The starting point of the development of this duvet was the finest quality silk filled duvet that we could find in the Far East. 'Khotan' silk filled duvets have been developed for the European user, enabling you to enjoy the luxury of a product that until now has been almost the exclusive preserve of the Orient. We believe that this is the first silk-filled duvet to be sold in the UK which complies with British Standards for duvets.

'Khotan' duvets are individually hand made using the finest quality new long fibre mulberry silk, hand layered in a criss-cross pattern to make a stable layered floss. Under normal use the silk filling does not bunch or move. This stability eliminates the necessity for pocket stitching, which is usually used in duvets to reduce movement of the filling. As 'Khotan' duvets do not need any pocket or cross-stitching there is an even coverage of silk floss throughout the duvet, eliminating 'cold spots'.

The floss is secured is by the traditional Chinese method of hand tacking. Whilst this results in almost perfect evenness of warmth and comfort it does mean a little more care must be taken in the use and cleaning of the duvet than a panel stitched duvet and we recommend that you read the care instructions before making your purchase.

A further advantage of using a criss-cross layered floss is that it enhances the properties of ventilation and water permeability that silk has naturally – this is what gives silk its 'breathability', its 'cool in summer, warm in winter' reputation. It also enables the filling quickly to return to its normal fluffiness if it is compressed (for example during storage) without the need for anything more than gentle shaking.

Mulberry silk is heavier than other silks, which gives it superb thermal properties and enables us to make light but warm silk duvets. In order to retain the naturally beneficial properties that silk fibre has, all production of silk for Khotan duvets is carried out without using any chemicals, which also makes it very environment-friendly.

The casing is made from 100% combed cotton satin of a quality that is compatible with the quality of the filling, and is finished with a piped edging.
