3.0 tog and 4.5 tog Quilted Silk Filled Duvets
Xi'an duvets are quilted duvets, to eliminate the possibility that the silk filling might move, thus making them more suitable than the 'Khotan' quality for uses where the duvet might be treated with less care, or where total cleaning might be required more frequently.
The Xi'an quality is available in super-light 3.0 tog and 4.5 tog summer weights. The method of preparing the silk for this quality is exactly the same as the 'Khotan' quality, and the same type of new soft long fibre mulberry silk is hand layered in a criss-cross pattern to make a layered floss. The silk is then placed in a 280 thread 60's count 100% combed cotton casing.
However as less thickness of silk is required than in the warmer 'Khotan' qualities there is an increased risk that the silk floss might move, so we have secured it in place with our own quilting design to give the duvet a unique and attractive appearance. The attractive appearance is completed with a piped edging.
The purpose of the quilting is purely to hold the silk in place. As a silk floss (or mat) is used as a filling this results in a much more even temperature than box-stitched duvets with other fillings.
A further advantage of using a criss-cross layered floss is that it enhances the properties of ventilation and water permeability that are natural to silk.
In order to retain the naturally beneficial properties that silk fibre has, all production of silk for Xi'an duvets is carried out without using any chemicals, which also makes it very environment-friendly.
Although the quilting does make this duvet more robust it must be remembered that this is still a luxury item, and that as it is a silk product if it does require to be totally cleaned the cleaning must be performed by a specialist cleaner. We recommend that you read the care instructions before making your purchase.
